Notice of Changes to U.S. Import Duty Prepayment and Shipping Rates

Due to changes in Japan Post’s handling of shipments to the United States, advance payment of import duties and other applicable charges, along with advance customs declaration procedures, is now required for orders shipped to the U.S.

As a result, LINEGEAR will collect applicable import duties (12.5%) and other charges at checkout for U.S.-bound orders and introduce revised shipping rates that include the associated declaration processing fees.

We understand that these changes may increase your costs, and we sincerely appreciate your understanding as these measures are necessary for us to continue shipping to the United States.

Background to These Changes

At the request of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), advance declaration registration became necessary for applicable postal shipments to the United States starting October 15, 2026.

The scope of shipments subject to these requirements has expanded. For example, certain gifts sent between individuals valued at US$100 or less, which were previously exempt from advance declaration registration, are now also subject to registration requirements.

Affected shipments must be registered in advance through a designated service. Import duties and other applicable charges must be prepaid where required, and shipments must be sent using labels displaying the required declaration registration number.

To comply with these changes, LINEGEAR is updating its shipping rates and the way import duties and other applicable charges are collected for orders shipped to the United States.
